#1. wpDataTables

wpdatatables home

wpDataTables is a free + premium WordPress table plugin. It is a user-friendly plugin and has one of the best interfaces on this list.

The free version allows you to create tables with basic features. It works well if your requirements for a table are simple.

You can import data from files like Excel, CSV, and JSON and insert them smoothly into tables. You can also create rows and columns according to your preference. This lite (free) version is helpful for those who require basic tables.

The Lite version has several great features that can help you in creating interactive tables and impressive charts.

Key Features of wpDataTable
  • You can edit tables in an Excel-like interface.
  • All tables are mobile responsive.
  • You can import tables from a wide range of external sources.
  • You can create dynamic charts powered by Highcharts or Charts.js.
  • You can let visitors filter your tables on a per-column basis.
  • With the help of front-end table editing, it lets users edit their rows.
  • It has some Excel features, including conditional formatting, formulas, etc.
  • Using a short code, you can place a table on your website.
  • The paid version allows even larger tables.
  • Many add-ons.
  • The Premium version supports charts and highlighting.

wpDataTables allows you to import data from a wide variety of sources. With the premium version, you can either build a table from scratch or can import data from the following sources:

  • Excel files
  • CSV files
  • Google Sheets
  • PHP Array
  • JSON
  • XML
  • MySQL queries

For MySQL queries, it can be either on your WordPress site’s database or from any other external database.

I like wpDataTable because of its MySQL query feature that lets you build the query by using a visual editor. This means, even if you don’t know how to use SQL Master, you can easily use this feature. You have two methods to import Google Sheets:

  • You can import the data as a one-time process and then edit it in WordPress.
  • You can also synchronize the table so that wpDataTables can load the latest data from the external source every time it reloads the page.
wpDataTables Pros
  • You can copy, print, or export the tables in CSV/Excel/PDF format.
  • There’s an in-built search option.
  • All tables are responsive.
  • A variety of styling options.
  • Huge list of color and font options.
  • Vast data import facility.
wpDataTables Cons
  • Many features are available in the Pro version only.
  • New users might find the interface obscure.
  • The plugin is not very user-friendly.
  • No front-end customization.
wpDataTable Pricing Plans

You will find many third-party websites selling premium subscriptions for wpDataTables at a high price or even lower than the actual price. However, I recommend you get one of the premium subscriptions, and only from the official site, for a hassle-free transaction, service, and support. The pricing is quite affordable:

  1. Basic – 59 USD [1 domain]
  2. Pro – 109 USD [3 domains]
  3. Developer – 249 USD [Unlimited domains]

You might wonder if you should buy a premium version. Let me help you with that. The free version has the following shortcomings:

  • The Lite version has a limitation of 150 rows for all tables.
  • Importing using a Google Spreadsheet is not allowed.
  • Server-side processing is missing in the Lite version.
  • The Lite version doesn’t allow you to create a table manually.
  • You cannot even make a table based on a MySQL Query.
  • You can’t enjoy the freedom of editing like you would in Excel or on the front end of your website.

Now, you can decide what version is suitable for you.
